Piedmont - lavaux

Piedmont - Lavaux

Meet Us in Milan!

When wine geeks think of Piedmont they immediately think of Barolo and Barbaresco, which are famous for their Nebbiolo-based wines. Surprisingly, Barolo and Barbaresco only account for 3% of Piedmont’s production, so there’s quite a bit more to uncover!

Piedmont is cupped by the Alps to the North and it looks like something out of a scene in Game of Thrones. To the South you’ll find the Apennines which are more like a set of lumpy hills. Despite their modest stature, the slopes heading towards the Apennines is where you’ll find crazy amazing wine in Piedmont.

Piedmont is one of the most useful wine regions to get to know. This region introduces us to a completely new set of wine grapes to taste and understand – from Nebbiolo to Cortese. Piedmont is considered one of the top wine regions in Italy (like Tuscany). This area is home to one third of the population of Italy! (including Milan and Turin). Let's go!

Small is beautiful! Wine has been grown in Switzerland for over 2,000 years, yet very little is known about these wines outside of their country. This is because the Swiss drink most of their wine and export a very small fraction. There are hundreds of small family producers. Not only are the vineyard landscapes enchanting and diverse, they also have high quality expectations for remaining sustainable and green. Switzerland's wines are overshadowed by the large European wine regions.

But the secret Lavaux wine region expects perfection in wine and is a must do for aficionados.  Covering 800 hectares, Lavaux is the largest contiguous vineyard region in Switzerland, and its daringly constructed hillside terraces have been protected by UNESCO since 2007.

To carelessly pass by wine cellars and traditional pubs would be a crime. After all, those who want to experience the scenery with all the senses should also taste it. And after a glass of Chasselas the dynamic uphills and downhills of the trail to Lutry are twice as much fun.
