RIOJA-BASQUE
Meet us in Madrid!
Mapping out which wine regions to visit on the Iberian Peninsula?  Even some Spaniards wouldn’t know where to begin.

Well, here’s a secret: No matter where you are on the Iberian Peninsula, you’re never far from a vineyard—so don’t overthink it. Barcelona is a commuter train away from the historic cava houses of Penedès. Bierzo, the region wine geeks can’t stop fawning over, is a pleasant, quiet drive from León. And the “Sherry Triangle,” though it sounds a tad foreboding, can be explored on a painless day-trip from Seville.

Whether you’re a casual wine drinker or a seasoned sommelier, we’ll taste our way through how to weave some vineyard-hopping into your Spanish vacation.

Spain is home to some of the top wine regions in Europe, and this combo is a very attractive destination for wine lovers to learn more about some icons wines, from Rioja, Basque, the Duoro Valley and dozens of other world-class regions.

Spain’s vibrant wine and tapas culture draws us in from the second we arrive. We'll visit bodegas (wineries) to learn about the process and taste some wine, then take a plunge into the culture of the top wine regions in Spain.

We'll tackle Northern parts of Spain, conduct a Basque emersion and try to make a dent  in the vast heritage of this unique excursion. If you don’t recognize the grape variety on a Portuguese wine label, that’s a good thing. We're out to learn about all the good wines!

Because Portugal’s wine culture developed in relative isolation, many grape varieties do not grow anywhere else in the world. If you don’t recognize the grape variety on a Portuguese wine label, it’s a good thing. There are over 250 indigenous varieties and a few imports that have adapted well to the Portuguese landscape. Many wine experts consider Portugal to be the last frontier of wine in Western Europe; there is still so much to be tasted and explored.
