The wine tradition began 2,400 years ago with the Celts, who cultivated vines in the regions of Slovenia and Croatia. With the advent of phylloxera, almost all vines were destroyed. Only when independence was obtained in 1991 did a rapid and positive development of viticulture begin again.

Due to the distinctive soils, climate, and cellaring methods, each wine-growing region has a unique selection of varieties. Vineyards are located in the very heart of the European wine-growing zone. The vine belt of ideal locations includes areas such as Burgundy in France, while the intertwining of climate and soil influences enables this area to diversify its wine offerings.

Wine tourism is represented by small, family-owned boutique wineries here. We'll experience charming countryside landscapes, stunning natural and cultural heritage and local mouthwatering cuisine.
